CHAPTER 11

Zoe

Prescott-effing-Reeves just kissed me.

And worst of all? I kissed him back.

It was completely carnal. That’s it.

While the strong feminine part of me hated the arrogant way he’d come and acted as though he was rescuing me from Cole, the softer side, a side I thought was gone forever, liked the idea that someone was looking out for me.

I didn’t need him or any man, that was for damned sure. But lord, did I want him right now.

The way he charged forward, pinning me to the wall and kissing me, telling me I was his. It was like every romance novel scene I’d read slid off the pages and created a reality where the man I’d deemed my enemy was the same one making me feel as though I’d burn up if he didn’t touch me again.

I shifted in the seat of his car as desire pooled between my thighs. One kiss and I was already lust-crazed.

“Right up ahead at the stop sign,” I said, clearing my throat as though that would magically whisk away my breathy awkward tone.

Prescott had barely said a word, but he took my hand from the seat I’d been pressing it into and started playing with it.

Oh. Dear. Gosh.

His thumb swirled on the inside of my palm and I almost lost it. The touching was destroying me.

Just like this would destroy me if I didn’t remind myself we were just two adults who had been in close proximity to each other lately and each of us needed to get off and be done. That’s all this was.

It meant nothing.

Nothing.

His index finger trailed ever so lightly over my wrist and up the inside of my arm and I stifled a moan, but not very well.

I was sure he heard the garbled whimper that came out instead, but he didn’t say a word.

“Left at the light and then it’s the first street on the right. Third house.” If I didn’t speak in short sentences and get the rest of the directions out now, I might not be able to speak at all.

Thankfully, he stopped playing with my hand as he turned at the light, giving me a minute to try to compose myself enough to pep talk my way into standing and getting out of the car once it stopped. I wasn’t sure I’d be able to stand, let alone walk inside.

He pulled in front of my house. My house that I’d been in since I was a child. The house I’d had a huge crush on him in.

The house that never thought it’d see Prescott Reeves walking inside, let alone staring at me like he was going to absolutely devour me.

I got out of the car, fumbling for my keys. When we got to the door Prescott leaned in close to me, kissing my neck. My keys fell to the ground and he bent down, picking them up as he ran a hand up the inside of my leg.

I trembled, hurriedly shoving the keys into the door and opening it.
